The inside of the fruit is composed of juice and pulp-filled pockets that contain hundreds of small seeds. Each seed is individually surrounded by deep-orange0like colored sacs that contain the juice. The juice is extracted from the pulp.

Passionfruit is native to South America and is currently cultivated in most tropical and sub-tropical regions including Ecuador, Peru, Columbia, Brazil, and Vietnam. Passionfruit grow on vines and the skin of the fruit can range in color from dark purple to light yellow or orange.
